God of War Ragnarok is a masterclass in blockbuster game design, delivering one of the most emotionally resonant narratives in the medium while wrapping it in spectacular combat. The relationship between Kratos and Atreus reaches genuinely moving depths, and the supporting cast -- particularly Tyr, Freya, and a scene-stealing Thor -- elevates the storytelling further. Combat expands meaningfully over its predecessor with new weapon mechanics, companion abilities, and enemy variety that keeps encounters fresh across a lengthy campaign. The scope of visiting all nine Norse realms is ambitious and mostly successful, though some realms feel more developed than others. Side content is substantial and well-crafted, avoiding the empty-filler trap. The main criticism is that it occasionally suffers from sequel bloat, with a middle act that could benefit from tighter pacing. Production values are extraordinary throughout. This is one of the premier action games of its generation, and the emotional payoff of its finale is earned magnificently.
